PARAMOUNT – ALMA RESIDENCE Plasma Studio
This project was conceived to fulfill a two-part problematic: (1) Residence Alma–a Tyrolean guest house with 6 holiday apartments from the 1960s adorned with a pitched roof–was due for a common circulation and service core, and (2) the project architect, Ulla Hell, was looking for a new home for her young family of five in the mountain community of Sesto, Alto Adige. The result: an under-utilized roof space gave way to an angular crown, connected to a ground floor reception space and architectural office by the host’s renovated spine.

Reflective 3 Carlo Brandelli
Titled ‘Reflective 3’, the project’s inception was a familiar architectural blueprint: ‘It’s partly a homage to the paper pattern’, he explains of the cartamodello that is also the backbone of his Savile Row atelier. This Florentine work leads on from ‘Reflective 1’, a film project with photographer Nick Knight for Kilgour’s rebirth, and ‘Reflective 2’, which set the scene for an earlier brand campaign.

Under Pohutukawa Herbst Architects
From the road, this beach house, in its opened-up summer configuration, reads as an encampment; up close, it is experienced as a beautifully sited verandah. The house is a beguiling essay in the relationship between structure and setting, order and nature, requirements and responsibilities. There is nothing extempore about the building, which is designed and executed with perfectionist exactitude, but it is also a highly successful exercise in sympathetic placement: the pohutukawa among which the house politely nestles are constantly and closely present. An iconic beach has been graced with an exquisite house.
