Architect Spotlight: David Rockwell
David Rockwell is the founder and CEO of Rockwell Group, one of the most prominent architecture firms in NYC and abroad. We think he’s awesome.
Rockwell studied architecture at Syracuse and worked at a few firms before founding Rockwell Group in 1984. He melded his theater background with his design expertise and hired a multitalented team to work on innovative, versatile projects. The Rockwell Group portfolio covers everything from from furniture to set design for film and theater to restaurants, hotels, hospitals and museums.
In a recent interview he said “The thing that drives our practice is looking at buildings and projects from the inside out. What I’m passionate about is creating places that create an armature for experience. I spend most of my time working on conceptual approaches to design and trying to create the elements that you’re going to build the design around. And that’s really what we try to do in architecture.”
Rockwell continues to be an influential figure in the NYC architecture community and we’re confident that we’ll continue to see great work from the firm.
